The PCNL procedure

The surgery is performed by determining the exact location using a fluoroscope or ultrasound machine of operation then a “Chiba needle” is inserted into the body, and the different size of dilators is used to widen the path to the kidney.

After using the “dilators” until the desired size is reached, the” amplatz sheet” on the last dilator is placed.

A nephroscope is then passed through the “amplatz sheet& in order t visualize the stone, break it up and remove it from the body. If necessary, a laser or other device called a lithotripter may be used to break up the stone before it can be removed. Finally, a double J ureteral stent” is placed to facilitate the passing remain stones.
